BY THE NUMBERS: The Chosen REACHES #1 IN APPLE TV APP STORE AS SEASON 4 DEBUTS DALLAS, TX - June 6, 2024— The Chosen app climbed to the #1 overall app in the Apple TV App Store and to the #2 free app in the mobile iOS App Store, as Season 4 Episode 1 was released on Sunday evening exclusively in the app via livestream and VOD. Season 4 premiered globally across all platforms on Sunday evening with 3.5 million streams representing an estimated 4.2 million viewers across households in the US over the first three days. For context, in 2023, the HBO production "The Last of Us" was the most watched TV show season premiere on streaming services in the U.S., with 2.9 million viewers in the first four days and 5.2 million viewers in the first 15 days. "The numbers are great, but what speaks to us far more are the comments and emotional response from the viewers. The crying emojis in the chat and the expressions of how much the ending impacted them were overwhelming,” said Dallas Jenkins, creator, producer, director, and writer of the international hit series The Chosen and director of the upcoming Lionsgate film The Best Christmas Pageant Ever to be released in theatres nationwide in November Episode two of Season 4 will be available for streaming Thursday night June 6 at 8:30 pm ET/5:30 pm PT. During the first 72 hours after the release of Episode 1, the YouTube and app stream alone yielded more than 2.5 million total viewers. The Chosen also netted nearly 100 percent streaming audience growth year-over-year. The livestream of the episode reached 111,500 live concurrent viewers at its peak on Sunday evening, June 2. In just 16 hours, 583,000 additional viewers watched the episode on YouTube with 4.4 million total impressions – nearly 100 percent streaming audience growth from the first 24 hours following the release of Season 3, Episode 1 in 2022. Each episode of Season 4 will launch with global livestreams on social media and The Chosen app. Following each livestream, Season 4 episodes will be available exclusively in The Chosen app before coming to other viewing platforms soon – including The CW Network. Following Thursday night’s release of Episode two of Season 4, ensuing episodes will be released on Sundays at 7 p.m. ET and Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. ET over the course of four weeks. The season was first released in theaters in 31 territories around the globe, the series’ most successful theatrical run ever. The U.S. sports betting market continues to grow as more Americans wager more money on live events. The AGA reported YTD commercial sports betting revenue reached $8.36bn through August (+30.4% YoY). However, the related advertising dollars are not flowing as easily as they once did with FanDuel and DraftKings Inc. entrenched as the regulated market leaders in all 30 legal mobile betting jurisdictions and the pace of states adding new OSB or online casino legislation having slowed to a crawl. Logic would suggest that reality will begin to impact sports rights owners and holders over time–if the trend doesn’t change. One “shouldn't assume that just because available ad dollars have dropped off this year, spending will stay at this level or drop off further in the future," Chris Grove (co-founding partner, Acies Investments) said. "There are numerous reasons why marketing spend could turn back upward.” But there is a new class of gaming companies –social sweepstakes casinos (think: VGW Play, Stake.us) and sportsbooks (think: Fliff Inc)– capable of helping sports properties and their media partners replace lost revenues in the interim. These entities are growing faster, operating in more states, and can be more profitable than regulated counterparts (though, none are nearly as profitable as FanDuel or DraftKings). For context, Virtual Gaming Worlds reported in September that it increased annual net profits by 30% YoY to $335mm on record revenues of $4.15bn. Sweepstakes are games of chance where no purchase is necessary to win. Live, work and play sports districts open 24//7 are the future of sports venues. 🕘 What started with major sports properties in the USA is now making its way internationally. 🌏 And for good reason. Live sports venues are increasingly competing for attention with a proliferation of mobile devices, streaming content, e-sports, and home entertainment. 🏟 To deepen connections with fans, attract new audiences, and increase ROI, sports organisations are looking for ways to boost year-round engagement. Enter… The rise of dynamic, multi use sports districts. 🤯 By activating venues and the experiences around them, sports and entertainment districts can generate new forms of revenue and help create 24/7 live-work-play communities. 1️⃣ So what’s next for sports and entertainment venue design? Well, it’s actually becoming clearer. The trend with sports arenas has been moving away from single-use, game-day venues towards entertainment districts. With facilities closely integrating into the cities and communities where they reside. 2️⃣ How has that approach changed over time though? Through urban planning as well as design with the key being multipurpose flexibility. You only have to look at what Real Madrid and Barcelona have done with their stadiums to understand the roadmap. An even greater example though is what the Chicago Cubs have done in and around Wrigley Field. They made targeted enhancements inside and outside the stadium with new housing, new commercial spaces, and new amenities. Wrigleyville is now an integrated hub within Chicago. A cohesive district and destination for more than baseball. ⚾ 3️⃣ So are sports owners now shifting their approach? Yes. Over the last 50 years, we’ve typically seen generational owners in sports. Now, you’re seeing owners who are businesspeople. Like Jim Ratcliffe. They’re activating around these sports properties because for them it’s about commercial opportunities and lifestyle. Only a few decades ago sporting events were about going to the stadium and that was the be all and end all of the fan experience. Venue owners wanted to get you in the gate as early as possible and extract as much dollar value from fans pockets. 💰 But that’s shifted. Fans going to a venue like LA LIVE to see The Lakers game are going early to have a coffee, heading to the museum, and watching the game. ☕ Then grabbing a drink of dinner afterwards. 🍺 4️⃣ But how can venues appeal to all types of fans? There’s a few ideas. Namely. By activating venues and the experiences around them. Strategic development with targeted adaptive reuse can allow existing urban assets to remain in place while reinvigorating the areas around them. Up close & peronal at the new COSM. Man Untd match! Top 6 observations for future of sports: 1) viewing experience is very close to being there. I can imagine high end houses getting similar viewing rooms in the future. 2) The video cuts are a bit more jarring at this scale. Sure they will be optimized. 3) Surprised there weren’t live chants from audience in the stadium. 4) At half - could be fun to have free t-shirt tosses in real life like they did at the stadium. 5) Somewhat similar to VR experience without downside of goggles, and positive of ability to talk and share with other fans and friends in person. 6) Parking was top notch! Easy in and out with all digital payment and cameras that read your license plate. Agree- disagree? Others thoughts who have been there?
