Virtual Woodwind Academy Survey!
Hey there - We're Ana and Amanda!

(Amanda Dame is a professional flutist in the Baltimore area, and Ana Nelson is a clarinetist and saxophonist from Bloomington, Indiana!) Together we co-founded a summer academy for adult learners who play woodwind instruments (clarinet, flute, sax, bassoon, oboe) called the Virtual Woodwind Academy (https://virtualwoodwinds.com).

We made the academy in 2020 in response to the COVID pandemic, so people could still make music in their homes and be connected to one another! But it turns out that many music programs are geared towards children, so the academy has evolved into a place for adults to learn and improve on their instruments at a pace that suits them! (Hello busy schedules). We are going on our third year at the academy, and we are so excited that we get to support adults in improving and getting the results they want in their playing! The academy is also still a place to connect with and get to know other musicians, as it was built into our framework from the beginning. :)

So, in terms of learning - the academy covers three main topics: Effective Practice Strategies (including tuning, tone, breathing and technique), Music Theory Mastery, and Jazz Improv for Classical Musicians. We are looking for feedback on what concepts within those topics adults would like most help on! Also, since the academy is virtual - we utilize technologies such as Zoom, Youtube, and Facebook.
