We love our dogs and cats and we treat them like family. We keep them indoors and feed them better. We also feed them more. As a result, they're suffering the same problems we are, including excess fat. This is potentially bad for their health and quality of life. It's become a major challenge for owners and veterinarians.
A new option has become available for optimizing canine and feline health. This option originates in the recent acceptance by the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC) of Proteimax as a Preferred Supplier for pet supplements. Proteimax leads its entry into the pet supplement market with Pep19™, an ingredient that was certified for the human market last December. Originally discovered in fat cells in mice, Pep19™ is an intracellular peptide that triggers browning of fat cells. It reverses accumulation of body fat without affecting appetite and behavior.
NASC is a not-for-profit industry group that works closely with Federal and State regulators to support its mission to promote the health and wellbeing of companion animals and horses and to protect and enhance the animal health supplement industry. Through the its Preferred Supplier Program, NASC helps assure quality and guides its members as they seek to meet regulatory requirements.
"The animal supplement market is growing and bringing innovation," said Bill Bookout, Founder and President of NASC. “We are excited to welcome Proteimax as a Preferred Supplier to help make our members aware of the research and potential benefits of Pep19 for companion animals.”
The water soluble Pep19 is stable in conditions common to food preparation, such as boiling and baking. It can safely power a number of functional formulations that aim to support body composition and metabolic health. Pep19 has been shown to reverse insulin resistance and thus opens the potential to help address metabolic imbalance, including in horses.
Pep19 is available to research and commercialization partners.
