2024 Elementary Summer Camp Registration Catalog

☀️ Hi there! We hope you'll join us for a summer of enriching, creative, skill-building camps! Please register your child for Elementary Summer Camp by Friday, March 22. Read about the camp details in this section, and then click "next" at the bottom of this page to go to the registration page.

Payment is due at the time of registration. Once your payment is processed, you will receive a message from Childpeace confirming your child's spot.

Complete a separate form for each child attending summer camp.

Please check the grade range for each camp carefully, as some camps are designed for younger or older students. Space is limited and camps may be canceled in the event of low enrollment. Changes or cancelations can be made until Friday, April 5. After April 5, camps are non-refundable. If a camp is canceled, you will not be charged.

STOP MOTION: MAKING POSABLE FIGURES with Chantal

Date: June 24 - 28, 2024
Time: 8:30 - 3 p.m.
Ages: 3rd - 6th graders

About Stop Motion: Making Posable Figures:
We’ll learn a variety of techniques for making poseable figures that can be used for stop motion animation or simply creative expression! This camp is an excellent precursor to stop motion animation camp. We'll learn about character design and take an idea from drawing to figure. We’ll make durable wire armatures and explore techniques like needle felting, cotton batting wrapping, sculpting, and how to plan a character for movement.

Get into Nature: Plants and Ants (and other bugs)

Camp One: June 24 - 28, 2024

About Get Into Nature: Plants and Ants
Nature and Gardening! The camp is all about getting outside and being one with our natural world. Our days will be spent planting, gardening and walking around the neighborhood looking at plants and studying all things that grow.

BIG PROJECTS with Chantal [FULL- Apply for waitlist]

About Big Projects:
Ever walked past the art room and felt inspired by the huge cardboard dragon?
In Big Projects, students will flex their creative muscles to transform recycled materials into huge moving sculptures, puppets, or wearable art. This is the camp for you if you start daydreaming about what you want to be for Halloween in July! We’ll transform shredded paper into lightweight clay, learn to sculpt with cardboard, practice paper and cloth mache, and learn to think of existing papercraft patterns as a jumping off point for bigger things. Come with ideas to narrow down and plan to spend the camp bringing one big project to life! 

CRAFTY KIDS with Hannah and Mercedes

Date: July 8 - 12, 2024
Time: 8:30 - 3 p.m.
Ages: 1st - 5th graders

About Crafty Kids:
In this camp with Hannah and Mercedes, children will explore their creative sides by planning and making arts and crafts projects tailored to each unique individual. Some days we will gather materials from the natural world to use by taking neighborhood walks, others we will spread out at the Greenspace and tie dye material or chase the sun to make sun prints. Each day will bring a new creative adventure!

MULTI-SPORT SOCCER & BASKETBALL with Skyhawk
Date: July 8 - 12, 2024
Time: 8:30 - 3 p.m.
Ages: 1st - 6th graders

About Multi-Sport Soccer & Basketball:
Skyhawks Multi‐Sport Soccer & Basketball camp is designed to introduce young athletes to a variety of different sports in one setting! Athletes will learn the rules and essential skills of each sport, along with vital life lessons such as sportsmanship, inclusion and teamwork.

About Fun with Food:
In this camp, students will explore many different ways to be creative with food. We will cover several ways to prepare things to eat such as baking, making pasta, making smoothies and popsicles, and making candy. Each day will have elements of science, movement and expressing their creativity through food preparation.

About Stop Motion Animation:
Children will study a primer on the principals of animation and learn to create their own animatable figures, backdrops, and special effects. Working in groups, kids will collaborate to plan and complete a short animation. 

MINI-HAWK SOCCER, BASKETBALL, & BASEBALL with Skyhawk

Date: July 15 - 19, 2024
Time: 3 - 5:30 p.m.
Ages: 4 - 6 years old

About Mini-Hawk Soccer, Basketball, & Baseball:
Skyhawks Mini-Hawk camp was developed to give children a positive first step into athletics. Sports are taught in a safe, structured environment filled with encouragement and fun. Through exciting games and activities, campers explore balance, hand/eye coordination and skill development at their own pace.

POLYMER CLAY PRIMER with Chantal
Date: July 22 - 26, 2024
Time: 8:30 - 3 p.m.
Ages: 2nd - 6th graders
Cost: $400

About Polymer Clay Primer:
Kids will learn to work with polymer clay, a colorful material that can be baked into permanent creations in a home oven. Topics will include making and planning figures and animals and using millefiori to create patterns that can be made into beads. We’ll cover the different varieties of clay available, and how to select the best one for the object you want to make. In the first week we’ll explore how to create basic shapes with clay and use them to build a larger piece, and how to make foil and wire armatures to give our pieces structure. 
Theater Nature Camp 
Camp One: July 22 - 26, 2024
Time: 8:30 - 3 p.m.
Ages: 2nd - 6th graders
Cost: $400 per camp

About Theater Nature Camp:
A theater adventure in the woods! We will go to Washington and Forest parks to learn acting basics and theater games as well as nature crafts, plant ID and survival skills! The students will write the script, act in the play, and make their own props and set pieces from forest materials. There will be a final performance at the end of the week for friends and family to enjoy! 
Music and More with Josephine
Camp One: July 22 - 26, 2024, 2nd - 5th graders
Camp Two: August 5 - 9, 2024, 1st - 3rd graders
Time: 8:30 - 3 p.m.
Cost: $400 per camp

About Music and More:
Over five days, students will learn two group choir songs and one piano piece that they will perform for their parents or guardians at the end of camp on Friday. Throughout the week, they’ll learn about different styles of American music, from jazz to rock and country to hip hop. The day will also include activities to build basic musical skills, like rhythm and note reading.

WEARABLE ART: JEWELRY MAKING with Chantal

Date: July 29 - August 2, 2024
Time: 8:30 - 3 p.m.
Ages: 2nd - 6th graders

About Wearable Art: Jewelry Making:
The perfect camp for kids fascinated by the spot where fashion and creativity meet. We’ll learn the techniques to make earrings, necklaces, and pins, and discover fun ways to make our creations our own! We’ll explore using millefiori and sculpting to make beads with polymer clay, a colorful material that can be baked into permanent creations in a home oven, and find ways to turn reusable materials into art when we make jewelry components from shrink plastic. 

FIBER ART with Lynne

Date: July 29 - August 2, 2024
Time: 8:30 - 3 p.m.
Ages: 2nd - 4th graders
Cost: $400

About Fiber Art:
Learn how to turn sheep’s wool into wearable art! We’ll be taking raw wool, fresh from the sheep, and learning how to turn it into yarn. Then we will use that yarn to knit or weave. From sheep to shawl, join us as we explore all the components of preparing fiber for spinning and knitting. Camp will include fiber prep (washing, carding, dying), how to use a drop spindle, an introduction to the spinning wheel, and your choice of learning knitting or weaving.

ELEMENTARY TRANSITION CAMP with Stephanie and Hannah*

Date: July 29 - August 2, 2024

About Elementary Transition Camp:
In this camp, children who will begin first grade in fall 2024 are introduced to the environments and routines of the Lower Elementary. Children will work with transitional classroom materials, engage in individual and collaborative projects, and may get to know some of their future classmates while developing a sense of familiarity and comfort with a typical Lower Elementary schedule.

SUMMER STITCHFEST with Shanon and Pam

Date: August 5 - 9, 2024
Time: 8:30 - 3 p.m.
Ages: 1st - 4th graders
Cost: $400

About Summer Stitchfest:
Explore the world of fun fiber arts and sewing techniques, including hand sewing, weaving, embroidery, applique and felting! Together we will create projects like darling hand-sewn stuffies, embroidered and embellished bags, and colorful woven wall art. Fellow Childpeace staffer Pam Bishop will also show us how to incorporate printmaking techniques for fabulous hand-printed fabrics!
