NVIDIA’s CEO, Jensen Huang, unveiled a personal AI supercomputer that could take farming to a new level. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆: NVIDIA’s AI advancements offer scalable tools for machinery maintenance, climate forecasts, crop prediction, trading, geo-analytics, pest and disease control, robotics and autonomous machinery. The Catalyst for Brazil's Innovation Boom #30anosdoReal The graph below shows Brazil's monthly inflation rates over the past decades. The Plano Real, implemented in 1994, put an end to the hyperinflation that once reached 82.39% in a single month in 1990. Before that, the economic environment was a roller coaster, and doing business in Brazil was extremely challenging. Entrepreneurs weren’t just heroes—they were SUPER HEROES. The Plano Real brought stability, which was crucial for attracting long-term investments. Along with privatization efforts across various sectors, this allowed Brazil to rebuild critical infrastructure, including in telecom, setting the stage for modern innovation. A new wave of innovation has flourished since 1994. Endeavor entered Brazil in 2000, CUBO Itau was founded in 2015, and landmark startups like iFood (2011) and Nubank (2013) emerged. In its seed pitch, Nubank highlighted its online distribution strategy, citing a WSJ article: "Brazil: The Social Media Capital of the Universe." Today, Nubank is the world's largest digital bank outside of Asia. As we celebrate the Plano Real's 30th anniversary, we also honor the ingenuity and resilience of Brazil's entrepreneurs who, present through economic turbulence and stability alike, ignited this new cycle of innovation and will continue to spread opportunities in the cycles ahead. In Brazil, there are dozens of Healthcare Information Systems developed by the public and the private sectors that: (a) don't interoperate whatsoever with their peers; (b) allow exchanging files whose structure doesn't follow any national or international standard; (c) allow exchanging messages whose structure doesn't follow any national or international standard; (d) provide APIs built according to in-house definitions without observing standards. Modifying these systems to interoperate appropriately is challenging, and it's discouraging to think that this modification can completely restructure the existent n-tiers to be effective. An alternative to complete restructuring is the adoption of Facades, designed and built to allow interaction with systems through standardized APIs. It's an adaptation for the homonymous structural design pattern defined decades ago, usually adopted in Object-Oriented Programming, aiming to ease access to a system by using a simplified interface. Its adoption allows subtle changes in the original system, introducing a new external access to be made available to interested clients, reusing totally or partially one or many tiers already existent. I've been using HL7® FHIR® RESTful Facades for a while, with excellent results. To exemplify its use and share the acquired knowledge during the process, I've been working on a side project to allow reading operations on data from available healthcare facilities at Brazil's National Registry of Health Facilities (CNES). Originally, this access is made through a SOAP webservice, delivering structured results according to an in-house definition by the Department of Informatics of the Brazilian National Health System (DATASUS). Using the FHIR® Facade, the access is made through an endpoint developed following the standard's RESTful API, delivering instances of the Organization resource. The obtained results attest that, even without any modification in the original system, it's possible to perform robust access following updated and well-established, recognized standards. P.S. I'm on vacation in Brazil. It's past midnight on Sat and for two days I've been trying to use #genai to help my radiologist brother-in-law to analyze medical images, tomography exams in particular. I found that all of the radiology GenAI wrappers are useless, as they all are built on "old" models. Since the most popular AI reasoning model has severe image upload limitations and, as I learned, a typical tomography would have ~450 images, I had to create a little Python script to automate the small batch upload and essentially bypass the limitation — and the cleansing of PII and PHI. So I was able to use a reasoning model for probabilistic diagnostics... and the results were [finally] impressive! Not only we think diagnostic accuracy would increase, but also that could mean a +4x increase in radiology’s productivity (and maybe hopefully even lower health costs!?). Too bad my job won't let me create a product for it (but please feel free to go ahead and help my brother-in-law -- just give him first, free access!) 😉 #ai #medical_imaging #radiology #health #healthcost
