Undefining Motherhood with Katy Huie Harrison, PhD

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by all the conflicting advice constantly hurled at moms, or heck, even the assumption that being a woman means you’ll become a mom one day? If you audibly groaned while reading that question, then Undefining Motherhood is the podcast for you, friend. In a world quick to comment on everything from the timing of motherhood to the ‘right’ way to do it, it’s no wonder we often feel overwhelmed, judged, guilty, and shamed. Hosted by Katy Huie Harrison, mom to two littles and four angel babies, along with co-host Sarah Creel, aunt and hopeful future mama, this podcast unravels all the conflicting advice and validates the tricky experience of being a woman, future mother, or mother. With PhDs and over a decade spent unraveling how cultural narratives shape the experiences of being a mother (Katy) and being a woman in a marginalized position (Sarah), we’re here to shred the rule books and the relentless tide of expectations they bring. That, friend, is exactly why we’re here. We’re pushing back against the social commentary that complicates moms’ experiences. In this safe space, the complexities of motherhood find a candid, unfiltered voice. We bring decades of research, years of experience, fun tidbits of history, and some serious feminism to our conversations about how, and why, we need to undefine motherhood. No dogmas, rule books, parenting styles, or mom overwhelm here. Just solidarity from two friends who get how hard it is and are working tirelessly to make life better for you. We’re undefining motherhood--one conversation at a time. Show Website: https://undefiningmotherhood.com/podcast/
Revolutionary for the modern mom

This podcast is so validating. There is so much that happens during motherhood and becoming a mom. I am thankful to know I am not alone in my thoughts. I really loved the episode about Fair Play with Eve Rodsky. I think her concept and philosophy is revolutionary and to be honest it’s something that we all need to start learning as early as high school. If there’s any way to pass that message on to Eve I think a course discussing Fair Play to the youth is what is going to help shift our society for the better and help prepare future families for success. Thank you to you all for all you do.

Katy is such a real, raw and funny mom that is not afraid to be vulnerable, open the door for conversation and community! As a mom myself and a professional working with pregnant and postpartum moms, kids and families … I applaud her and support her in this and for the change and culture shift we need surrounding all things motherhood! Looking forward to more :) Brittany E

This podcast has been so helpful in validating my thoughts and feelings going through parenting as a first time mom to our one month old rainbow baby. I love the hard facts and the way they utilize their different perspectives going through the various topics. Definitely a favorite of mine for midnight feedings with our babe 🩵
