Legislators are in a key position to promote the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in every country, pushing for its signature and ratification or promoting it abroad. Over 1600 elected officials all around the world have committed to do so through the ICAN Parliamentary Pledge.
“We, the undersigned parliamentarians, warmly welcome the adoption and entry into force of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons as a significant step towards the realisation of a nuclear-weapon-free world.
We share the deep concern expressed in the preamble about the catastrophic humanitarian consequences that would result from any use of nuclear weapons and we recognise the consequent need to eliminate these inhumane and abhorrent weapons.
As parliamentarians, we pledge to work for the signature and ratification of this landmark treaty by our respective countries, as we consider the abolition of nuclear weapons to be a global public good of the highest order and an essential step to promote the security and well-being of all peoples.”

The Pledge is open to parliamentarians from all countries. Any current member of a national, state/provincial or regional parliament or congress may sign to join the global network of parliamentarians committed to getting their government to join the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
As a constituent you have the right to ask your elected representative to join the Pledge and act for nuclear disarmament.
Joining is easy. To take the Pledge, any MP can simply email [email protected] from their official parliamentary account indicating that they wish to be added, or send us a scanned copy of the signed Pledge. This is the first step to commit to working for the fulfillment of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and for a world free of nuclear weapons.
