BUILDING A BETTER WORLD
for Farmed Animals

Why do we give to end factory farming?

Animal Protection

Factory farming causes over 100 billion animals to suffer deprivation, fear, and pain every year.

Environmental Impact

Factory farming is responsible for 75% of the world’s deforestation, and 14.5% of global carbon emissions.

Human Health

Factory farming is a key driver of antimcrobial resistance and emerging infectious diseases in humans.

And so much more!

And many other harms, including food insecurity, harming rural communities, and species extinction.

Yet, less than 0.1% of global philanthropy goes towards improving or replacing factory farming.

We see remedying factory farming as a neglected but solvable global priority, as well as an incredible opportunity for us to dramatically improve the world.

Who are we?

We are a group of individuals and foundations giving more than $250,000 per year to end factory farming. We are a learning and giving community. We share resources and ideas about how to advance the fight to end industrialized animal agriculture and transition to a more plant-based society through our personal philanthropy.

Our Mission Statement

We’re a group of funders committed to replacing factory farming with a more humane and sustainable food system. We seek a world free of the suffering factory farming causes to animals, people, and the environment. We know we’ll get there faster together, and seek to share, learn, and collaborate to become more effective funders.

Our core commitments:

We will generously support farm animal and plant-based advocacy with our financial and non-financial resources.

We will constantly seek more effective ways to maximize the impact of our giving, including through sharing with and learning from one another.

We will help to build a broader community of donors and leaders passionate about this issue, and a broader movement of advocates equipped to fight it.

Our Research

Our research helps funders better understand different giving opportunities, and gives them the confidence to fund promising opportunities. See our resources page for further information.

The impacts of factory farming

80 Billion

land animals were slaughtered globally in 2021 for food, an inconcievable figure. 74 billion of those animals were chickens.

Aquatic animals are also slaughtered in unfathomably large number. Unlike land animals, the number of fish killed is so immense it's measured by weight, not individual lives.

Visualizing the Toll: Animals Slaughtered for Food vs. Human Population in 2020

91.4 Million Tons

of fish were pulled from our oceans and aquafarms in 2020.

36%

of global crop calories are used just for feeding livestock, widening the industry's footprint even further.

14.5%

of greenhouse gas emissions can be traced back to animal agriculture

Only 18%

of our entire global calorie consumption comes from animal agriculture
