CPA Firms Hire Fewer Accounting Grads, Seek Tech Skills Instead (1)

Public accounting firms in the U.S. hired fewer accounting graduates in 2018, opting instead to bring in new employees with skills and degrees in other areas.

Hiring of accounting grads dropped 11% with an equivalent number of non-accounting graduates hired instead, according to the latest hiring trends report by the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants released Aug. 13.

The report offers a snapshot of the hiring needs of public accounting firms in 2018. The broader accounting and auditing industry is expected to expand, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
