The GCA Schools project has connected UK groups of primary school children with children from the Commonwealth country of Ghana in West Africa. It is a FREE initiative to connect children through greeting cards and help practice their handwriting too.
This initiative was launched in September 2022 as part of Thinking of You Week and so far, 9000 cards have been written by UK and Ghanaian children. We’re seeking more UK schools to participate in the project.
The project enables youngsters to exchange cards, which actively promotes empathy, helps with emotional communication and conveys the value of doing something special for others, as well as being a fun way to practice writing.
Participating schools are provided with greeting cards for the children to write their messages. Award-winning greeting card designers Lottie Simpson has designing the cards for the UK schools and Afrotouch’s Georgina Fihosy for the Ghana schools. The cards have been printed by St Albans-based Graphite Creative as its generous contribution to TOYW 2022.
Greeting card, stationery and gift company Ohh Deer donated 4000 pens to the Ghanaian pupils to use to write their greetings.

How can you get involved?
We need to recruit more UK primary schools! So please contact your local primary school and encourage them to take part!
