A Counting: Boston-Cambridge Call for Participation
MIT Museum presents A Counting: Boston-Cambridge, a vocal portrait and sonic meditation on the linguistic and ethnic diversity in the region, by Ekene Ijeoma and Poetic Justice Group (MIT). A Counting: Boston-Cambridge is the 6th edition in the series of site-specific participatory artworks that include Ogden, Omaha, St. Louis, Houston, and New York. The software-generated sound and video streams for each edition are composed of an evolving and neverending count from 1 to 100, featuring a different local’s voice and language for each number. You can listen to and watch previous editions of A Counting at http://a-counting.us.

A Counting: Boston-Cambridge will be displayed on a custom double-sided 12x8 feet video wall in the public indoor plaza of the museum. One side will face stadium seats, and another side will face the sidewalk. It will be free and accessible to the public within the hours of the museum and 24/7 on the street, as a sound stream over the phone and a video stream online.

We invite people in Boston-Cambridge (including long-time residents, recent migrants, and students) to sign up and be one of the first to participate in our historical and monumental project to record all languages and voices of the Boston-Cambridge region! We’ll text or email you the phone number on Friday, September 28, 2022, the day before the public opening.

The more people call, the more diverse the artwork will become! So please share.
