Nimy Resources (ASX: NIM) has intercepted nickel sulphide mineralisation within a diamond drill hole at the Dease prospect at its Mons project in Western Australia’s Yilgarn Craton.

Assays have been received from hole NRDD005, which unearthed 6m at 0.31% nickel from 14m, including 1m at 0.48% nickel from 16m; 4m at 0.30% nickel from 26m, including 2m at 0.37% nickel from 27m; and 226m at 0.16% nickel, which extended to the end of the hole at 316m.

Copper up to 0.04% and cobalt up to 0.04% were also present in the hole.

Additionally, down hole electromagnetic (DHEM) anomalies had also been recorded at 270m and 290m near a zone of pendlandite that had been logged in the hole.

Nimy executive director Luke Hampson said the Dease gossan discovery was a priority in the next exploration stage.

“The combination of gossan outcropping, nickel sulphide mineralisation and EM surveys to further define anomalies present within the current data set augers well in locating significant nickel sulphide accumulation.”

Mr Hampson said the company’s strategy was to discover both high-grade nickel sulphides and large low-grade nickel sulphide deposits.

“The gossan find is the first indication of zeroing in on the high-grade nickel we believe to be present.”

“Together with the earlier substantial low-grade results at Godley we are very much on target to establishing a significant nickel province across our 2,564sq km holding,” he added.

Ongoing nickel exploration

In its upcoming exploration at Dease, Nimy plans to complete another DHEM survey of NRDD005 using an adjusted transmitter loop position.

A moving loop EM survey will then be undertaken across 1.04sq km of the gossan area.

Data from these along with assays and field work will feed into more drill hole planning at Dease along with geological mapping and modelling.

Nimy’s prospecting has noted additional gossan outcrops prospective for nickel-copper-cobalt mineralisation up to 5km north and 10km south along strike of Dease.

The company also plans to continue assessing the wider Mons project area with surface geochemistry methods.
