Abstract

This IDC Market Analysis Perspective examines the IT training market in light of these pressures, exploring IT training buyer perceptions, attitudes, and preferences.

Accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic and exacerbated by "the Great Resignation," the looming IT skills crisis impacts organizations everywhere. IDC predicts that more than 90% of enterprises will feel the impact of the skills crisis by 2025, costing some $6.5 trillion in product delays, decreased customer satisfaction, impaired competitiveness, and lost revenue.

"The skills crisis is fueling continued growth in the sector, especially for self-paced elearning and virtual, instructor-led training," says Gina Smith, Ph.D., research director, IDC's IT Skills for Digital Business. "IT training now is a strategic business imperative for global organizations, which must find ways to hire, retain, and skill up employees with quality experiences and a range of content types and modalities."
