Dundas Minerals Ltd (ASX:DUN) has appointed a highly regarded and experienced independent nickel consulting geologist to assist with the company’s exploration program.

Grant 'Rocky' Osborne will bring his international experience to DUN’s exploration for nickel, copper and gold in the prospective Albany-Fraser Orogen, Western Australia. 

Osborne will be involved in the independent analysis of drill core, assay and hyperspectral logging results from DUN’s current drilling program at its Central exploration target, as well as the appraisal of exploration target generation, target ranking (including the application of geophysical data sets) and review of planned future drilling programs. 

“We’re obviously delighted that Rocky has agreed to consult to Dundas Minerals, his impressive career speaks for itself," managing director Shane Volk said. 

"We expect that being able to draw on Rocky’s expertise, specifically his global nickel sulphide and gold exploration experiences, will greatly assist us in our exploration endeavours.”

Highly experienced addition

Osborne has more than 40 years of mining and exploration experience in Australia, South America and various other countries and is a highly regarded professional with particular expertise in nickel and gold mineral systems. 

While working for BP Minerals in Australia and Brazil in the 1980s, he was responsible for the discovery of the Rocky’s Reward nickel mine (WA) and the C2C (Santa Helena) zinc-copper-silver deposit in Brazil. 

In 1989, he joined Western Mining Corporation (WMC) in Brazil as senior geologist and became principal geologist. Whilst with WMC, Osborne led the teams responsible for the Boa Vista nickel and Sertão gold discoveries in Brazil.

He was also involved in global nickel sulphide targeting in Africa, Canada, China and South America. 

Osborne has been privately consulting since 2014 and has been engaged by a diverse range of exploration and mining companies, providing guidance and oversight to exploration programs. 

Thus far he has lent his expertise to Windward Resources Ltd (acquired by Independence Group Ltd in 2016; Auroch Minerals Ltd; Centaurus Metals Ltd and London-based Meridian Mining – where he currently serves as a member of its advisory board.
