Last Thursday the CREW Charlotte Student Outreach team had an amazing opportunity to spend the morning with local Charlotte students at Camp North End sharing with them the paths our careers have led us. We had hoped to inspire and expose them to the wide variety of careers that could await them in Commercial Real Estate. With over 20 speakers ranging from Brokers and Property Managers to Placemakers, Engineers, and Contractors, we looked at the many facets that make a commercial real estate project come to life! Thank you to all the speakers and school administrators who took the time to teach and inspire. Also, thank you to the students who joined us; we can't wait to see where you go and who you become! Finally, thank you to all the committee members who helped organize this event, it would not have been nearly as successful without your help! Recently, Holder Construction, Edison Foard, R.J. Leeper Construction, and Gresham Smith teamed up to participate in AIA Charlotte’s 2024 Canstruction event at Camp North End.    This awesome event is designed to bring AEC professionals together to build structures entirely out of cans, which are then donated to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina (SHMETROLINA).    Our team built a plane taking off with the Charlotte city skyline in the background, titled "Take a Flight Out of Hunger." Our structure was made up of 2,496 cans. My parents were both educators and they taught me that knowledge is power. CREW Charlotte hosted its annual Bring Your Student to Work day this week. More than 40 high school students and college students spent the day learning about the many career opportunities available in Commercial Real Estate. The exposure they received was invaluable! I enjoyed experiencing the amazing work and collaboration of Knight Foundation partners this weekend informing and engaging residents across two corridors of opportunity. #HistoricWestEndPartners led by J’Tanya Adams hosted a town hall updating residents on the planning for the district which includes opening a new grocery store and affordable housing. Across the street at Johnson C. Smith University - JCSU’s #WestPlex, Winston Robinson hosted hundreds at the first annual #WestSideFishFry which included master chefs putting their spin on the traditional fish fry. The Charlotte Symphony provided their mobile sound stage for Saturday’s event. And of course thrilled to attend the this year’s #BOOMArtsFestival at Camp North End End featuring hundreds of local and national artists in collaboration with City of Charlotte, Charlotte Journalism Collaborative, POTIONS & PIXELS and many more.
