5th Annual ART + STROLL, presented by BBX Capital.

General Information: FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Business for the Arts of Broward (BFA) is seeking entries from established and emerging artists for its 5th Annual ART + STROLL, presented by BBX Capital.

ART + STROLL takes place on Thursday, April 27th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the lobbies of buildings 200, 201 and 301 E. Las Olas Blvd. in downtown Fort Lauderdale.   

BFA will accept 2D work, no larger than 60” wide by 60” high, and 3D art such as sculpture, ceramics, fashion or any other free-standing artwork. Accepted 3D artists will be responsible for providing pedestal(s) to display their work and will have to deliver and set up the art themselves.

The theme and medium are open, including but not limited to photography, painting, drawing, printmaking, paper art, fiber art, wood, clay, metal, glass, sculpture, fashion, and mixed media. Works should not exceed 30 lbs.

The fee to enter is $30 and artists will be allowed to submit up to three entries that they have personally created. Works selected are based on originality, creativity, craftsmanship and artistic distinction. All work(s) must be submitted through the cafe site.

The deadline to submit is Friday, March 17th by midnight. Accepted artists will be notified by March 31st and receive one complimentary Sip & Stroll VIP ticket to the event gaining access to the food and beverage areas in each lobby. 

Accepted works may be used for marketing purposes, and the artists will have the opportunity to showcase and sell their work to attendees from the business community and key sponsors. 

Cash prizes totaling $5,000 will be awarded to artists as follows: 1st Place $3,000, 2nd Place $1,500 and 3rd Place $500. All artwork may be offered for sale. BFA will encourage buyers to take purchased work home at end of the exhibit. In the event that a buyer can not take home their work artists will also be responsible for the delivery of their work to the buyer(s), and BFA keeps 25% commission on any sold artwork. This exhibition is open to all functional, non-functional, 2D, 3D, fine art, and fine craft in ALL MEDIUMS and ALL STYLES. 

This is an in person exhibition but this exhibition will also be featured digitally on BFA’s website.

Juror: This is a juried exhibition, and will be co-curated by BFA’s Executive Director Robyn Vegas and Program Assistant Lori Pratico. Our judge for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place is Juliana Forero, Chief Curator of the Frank, Pembroke Pines.

Judges BIO: Juliana Forero is Chief Curator for the City of Pembroke Pines (The Frank Art Gallery and Studio 18 Art Complex), and founder and director of Nomad Art Projects. In her independent curatorial practice, Juliana coordinated the art exhibitions for Bailey Contemporary Arts, Historic Ali Cultural Arts, and the Pompano Beach Cultural Center. A native of Colombia, Juliana Forero worked as the Director of Education for Houston Center for Photography prior to relocating to South Florida. Her doctoral dissertation researched the role of the artistic community in the revitalization of the South Bronx, while working in the development department of the Bronx Museum of the Arts.

Juliana holds a Ph.D. in Arts Education, a MA in Arts Administration and a Museum Studies Certificate from Florida State University. Prior to these achievements, she received a BFA in Visual Arts from Universidad de los Andes in Colombia, a Certificate in Portrait Photography from the Tecnológico de Monterrey, and a Certificate in Graphic Design from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico. 

She has served in multiple grants panels, providing feedback to over 200 artists and arts organizations as a reviewer for the Houston Arts Alliance, Texas Council on the Arts, Florida Department of Cultural Affairs, Broward Cultural Division’s Public Art and Design, Broward Cultural Division’s Creative Investment Program (CIP), Broward Cultural Division’s Cultural Diversity Program (CDP), the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County’s Artist Innovation Fellowship, and the regional South Florida Cultural Consortium.

Brief description of the Exhibition Site, Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale: The luxury high rises that host lobbies 200, 201, and 301 are located in the Central Business District of Las Olas Boulevard in the heart of Fort Lauderdale. Surrounded by casual and fine dining, galleries and eclectic shopping experiences Las Olas Boulevard is a premier destination for entertainment and shopping in South Florida.

Night of Art + Stroll exhibition: Guests will enjoy a juried art exhibit of fine art for sale as well as local live entertainment performances, such as dance, music, spoken word, art installations and live painting.  Attendance is free and open to the public but guests will have the option to purchase a Sip & Stroll ticket for $50, which includes food and beverage tastings in each lobby. 

ART + STROLL is one of several ways Business for the Arts of Broward helps fund events and expand the services they offer across Broward County, as well as promote economic development to the non-profits they support and advance a creative economy. Proceeds from ART + STROLL allows Business for the Arts of Broward to continue and expand its innovative programming including the free Arts Mean Business Speaker Series, Art in the Workplace, Art Curation, Public Art Projects, and continue to support and promote local arts and cultural non-profits and projects.

Accepted Artworks: All accepted artworks must arrive on installation day between 8:00am - 3:00pm unless pre-arranged. Please contact rvegas@bfabroward.org. If your artwork is being shipped it must arrive to our office no later than April 17, 2023.

Submission: $30 for up to 3 works (one image per submission)

2nd Place: $1500

3rd Place: $500

BFA Commission: Commission on sales is 75/25 (75% artist, 25% Business for the Arts)

Eligibility: Participants must be 18 or older. All work must be original and created without the aid of an instructor or kit. Work needs to have been produced within the last eight years. All styles and aesthetics are considered. This is a public event open to everyone; as such, the content of submissions should be appropriate for all viewers.

Limitations: Works cannot exceed a weight of 30 pounds. Work cannot be longer/larger than 60 inches in its longest dimension. Accepted 3D artists are responsible for providing pedestal(s) to display their works and must deliver and set up the art themselves. ALL WORK MUST BE HANG/PRESENTATION READY using D rings or wire, no sawtooth hangers. We reserve the right to reject work for the exhibition that differs significantly from the submitted images and/ or for craft issues.

Return of Artwork: Artist can collect their art at the end of the April 27th opening at 7:30pm or make arrangements to pick up from the BFA office by no later than May 5, 2023.


Liability:   

1. BFA staff will take great care handling artworks for exhibition. However, BFA, its staff, and exhibit sites are not responsible for any damage that may occur. We strongly recommend artists insure the works themselves, and also purchase insurance from the shipping company used. Shipping your work means you agree to this.

**Disclaimer: BFA’s insurance does not cover damage to art during shipping. Artists should insure all work.

2. BFA mails exhibition award checks separately from the artwork and up to 30 days after the exhibition reception date. It is the artist’s responsibility to ensure that their mailing address is correct in their CaFe account. If the artist fails to list their address correctly, BFA is not responsible for any fees associated with canceling and re-issuing a new award check to the artist.

3. BFA lists exhibiting work for sale using the price of the work listed on the artist’s CaFe account. It is the artist’s responsibility to ensure that their sale price is correct in their CaFe account. If the artist fails to list the price correctly, BFA is not responsible if the work was sold at the CaFe account listed price. Please note that BFA’s commission on sales is 75/25 (75% artist, 25% BFA)

4. If shipping, the artist is responsible for shipping costs to and from the gallery. Artists must provide a return label. Works that are not provided with a return label from the artist within one (1) month of the end of the exhibition become property of BFA. Works that are not picked up within one (1) month of the end of the exhibition become property of the BFA.


 

Shipping

The artist is responsible for shipping costs to and from the gallery. All art must be received by April 17, 2023.

NO FREIGHT SHIPPING PLEASE.

Artists must issue pre-paid return labels for their works through UPS or FedEx. We do not arrange shipping in any other manner. Works must have pre-paid return labels through FedEx or UPS to be returned which allows us to call for pick up as BFA’s insurance does not cover transporting work offsite to local shipping companies or the United States Postal Service, which is why the postal service is not an option for shipping. PLEASE MAKE YOUR RETURN LABEL EASY TO FIND UPON UNPACKING. Clearly indicate any packing directions for return of works

Works should be shipped in reusable containers/boxes and packaging for return.
