CNI to Complete One Nickel Smelter in 2024

PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama (CNI) Group is building two nickel smelters with two leading technologies: the 72-MVA Rectangular Rotary Kiln-Electric Furnace (RKEF) technology to process saprolite-type nickel ore and the High-Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) technology to process limonite-type nickel ore used in the electric vehicle battery production.

CNI Group president director Derian Sakmiwata believes that the government's decision to push for the nickel downstreaming is right following the high demand for nickel supplies from global electric vehicle manufacturers.

"We aim to complete the RKEF smelter as the first line in 2024. On the other hand, we are expected to complete the HPAL smelter and start its production in 2026," he said on Saturday.
