Virtual Care Is Transforming The Future Of Healthcare

Are you using it?

Good healthcare is essential for quality of life. From wellness, fitness, and diet, to routine checkups, to emergent or chronic medical conditions, access to medical professionals and effective guidance and treatment is crucial.

For starters, virtual care is not telemedicine. They are two different things.

Telemedicine replaces a visit to a doctor’s office, while virtual care delivers ongoing care and communication. According to the report, there has been a 38% increase in use of telemedicine during the Covid pandemic as many people did appointments over Zoom or other video platforms rather than traveling to the doctor’s office in person.

There is a large gap in virtual-care adoption between people with Medicare and those with other payers. Those with other payers are clustered around an 18 percent adoption rate, while those with Medicare have a rate of 12 percent. The reasons may be varied: older patients are likelier to have more established relationships with their in-person care providers. They are also more likely to have differences in their use of technology (PCs and laptops, compared with smartphones) that may temper their uptake of virtual care.

However, consumer surveys have shown that in the past few years, the gap in uptake of virtual care has been closing between those below age 65 and those above. Additionally, the benefits of virtual care for older populations (eliminating the need for transport, convenience of scheduling, etc.) could suggest that payers and providers may need a targeted strategy for this cohort.

Although virtual healthcare is seen as a boon by many patients, its potential to mitigate healthcare differences by improving access and convenience may be currently underutilized.

Most all Medicare plans include telemedicine and virtual visits for all beneficiaries no cost or minimal cost.  Many doctors have incorporated telemedicine into their care seamlessly for those who desire it.

Try it and see how you like it!

How does the Aging of the

U.S. Population affect

Medicare Enrollment?

An aging population means more people will be enrolled in the Medicare program. The number of Medicare beneficiaries is projected to grow from around 63 million people in 2020 to just over 93 million people in 2060.

Arroz con Pollo

(Chicken with Rice)

In ONE Pan!

Golden on the plate and golden on the tongue: that’s the best summation of One Pot Mexican Chicken and Rice. The rice is tender-cooked in rich seasonings and spices, and the chicken is juicy with a gorgeous roasted crust.

One Pot Mexican Chicken and Rice is cheesy, comforting, warm, and hearty, and can be made ready in less than half an hour. So you can enjoy your weeknight outside the kitchen with a sparkling, beautiful meal on the table.

It’s the best of all worlds!

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, divided
  • 1/2 white onion, diced finely
  • 1 pound chicken thighs, boneless.
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Freshly ground pepper, to taste
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 1 (10 ounce) can red enchilada sauce
  • 1 (10 ounce) can diced tomatoes and green chilies, undrained
  • 1 cup chicken broth (we like Trader Joe's)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded

Preparation:

Step 1 -In a large skillet or pot, sauté the onions in 2 tablespoons of the olive oil over medium heat on the stove-top.

Step 2 -Season the chicken with salt, pepper and your favorite rub.

Step 3 -Once the onions soften, increase the heat to medium-high and add the chicken to the pan.

Step 4 -Brown the chicken pieces, about 3 minutes, and add the garlic.

Step 5 -Cook until the garlic is fragrant, about 1 more minute.

Step 6 -Push the chicken to one side of the pan and add an additional tablespoon of olive oil to the other side.

Step 7 -Add the uncooked rice to the olive oil and sauté it for a couple of minutes.

Step 8 -Add the enchilada sauce, diced tomatoes, broth, and cumin. Stir to combine.

Step 9 -Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower the heat to a simmer and cover the pan with a tight-fitting lid.

Step 10 -Cook the chicken and rice mixture, making sure to stir every once in a while until the rice is tender and the liquid is fully absorbed, about 15 minutes.

Step 11 -Sprinkle the cheese on top and cover the pan with a lid, letting it sit until the cheese melts, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 12 -Serve and sprinkle with desired toppings and lemon slices.

Ours would include sour cream, cilantro, chopped tomatoes, scallions, or even more cheese.

Enjoy!
